While walking through the West Village this weekend I was drawn, as if by magnet, to a new shop on Christopher Street. It’s crisp white interior made me think that perhaps it was the newest, minimal design store to open up, and its foreign name was no more revealing. However, upon peering in the window and seeing row upon row, and box upon box of candy colored perfection I knew that Sockerbit was going to become a delightful if not dangerous new West Village destination for me.
Sockerbit is Swedish for “small candy,” and that is just what this store has to offer by the pound, only all of it comes direct from Sweden. Inside you’ll find over 100 kinds of candies, some identifiable and others remarkably foreign. But all the genres are covered including gummy candies, hard candies, licorices, yogurt-covered goodies, and various forms of marshmallows. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new favorite?!
