Mad Monster Party is an amazing stop motion animation movie made in 1967. It was the only theatrical feature from Rankin/Bass — the outfit behind countless animated holiday TV specials includingRudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman. This wonderfully bizarre movie (rated G) celebrates the best of the movie monsters, even even going so far as to recruit Boris Karloff (the original Frankenstein) to supply the voice of Baron Von Frankenstein.
The story begins as the old Baron invites all members of the Worldwide Organization of Monsters to attend the unveiling of his ultimate creation, a potion capable of destroying all matter. Before the assembled guests — including Count Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Invisible Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon — Frankenstein announces his retirement as the group’s leader and the selection of his successor: his bookish, allergy-ridden nephew Felix. Chaos erupts soon after, as nearly every creep and creature on the list begins to conspire against one another in an attempt to take over the coveted new position. But Frankenstein’s title is not all that is at stake. The famous doctor has also discovered the secret of total destruction, and it must not fall into the wrong hands!
