Ice Cream Sandwiches

While I’m on my summer sweets kick, I think I should also mention some of the delicious ice cream sandwiches NYC has to offer.  While it is easy to find ones that are reminiscent of the sandwiches we all grew up with, the field has come a long way.  There are now options to please everyone and every urge imaginable, with insanely good home-made taste.  Go ahead and indulge a little!

Ronnybrook Dairy in the Chelsea Market is very liberal with their samples, and that is a good thing with so many amazing options to choose from.  The sandwiches are assembled on the spot, and they have the perfect cookie to ice cream ratio. Your first challenge is to pick your ice cream – from basic chocolate and vanilla to more adventurous ginger crème brulee and hazelnut, you can’t go wrong.  Next you choose your cookie from a selection that includes peanut butter, chocolate chip, and notable raisin oatmeal.  Come hungry, and you own’t leave disappointed!

When you come to Milk and Cookies Bakery, you’s better come hungry.  While all of their goods are delicious and generously sized, their ice cream sandwich is huge! There is a menu for ice cream sandwiches with options like the Sweetheart (chocolate chip cookie with strawberry ice cream) and the Grasshopper (chocolate mint cookie with fresh mint ice cream), but you can also build the creation of your dreams as the ice cream sandwiches are prepared on the spot. Your best bet is to come with friends are family, and get a whole selection to share so you can try them all!

How Sweet It Is is the only shop on this list to offer ice cream sandwiches in mini and regular sizes, so you can just have a taste of sweet or totally pig out. The sandwiches here are pre-made with house-made cookies and Capogiro gelato.  I suggest you try the creamy pistachio gelato sandwiched between two thin coconut macaroons, or if you are in the mood for something a bit more exotic there is snickerdoodle cookies with Thai tea gelato. Can’t decide on just one? Get the mini version of two different flavor sets for the price of one regular.
