No, that is not a mistake. Blue velvet cake really does exist (click the link for a recipe), and it is delicious! Now, I really love red velvet cake, but on a recent visit to The Little Cupcake Bakeshop I found that they had sold out of my favorite treat. The look of concern on my face must have been obvious because the girl helping me behind the counter quickly chimed in, “we do have our blue velvet cake!” I was desperate, so I decided to give it a try, and I was not disappointed.
While the more commonly known (and enjoyed) red velvet cake is made with a cocoa base, it’s blue relative is made with a vanilla batter instead. Both are topped with cream cheese frosting, which I absolutely love. An added bonus, The Little Cupcake Bakeshop even puts fresh blueberries into their batter. So kids, you can even try to convince your parents that they are a healthy treat!
Blue and red velvet cakes aside, The Little Cupcake Bakeshop is a great place to satisfy any sweet tooth. They have a ton of delicious and unique items to choose from – french toast and tiramisu cupcakes, whoopie pies, banana bread cake with nutella frosting – and it isn’t overwhelmingly crowded like so many bakeries can be.
